With 19 new cases, no end to swine flu menace

SURAT: Spread of swine flu continues unabated in Surat with 19 fresh cases of the virus being reported on Friday from the city and rural areas. Of the 15 new cases reported from the city areas, five are children aged up to 5 years. These new cases push the number of affected people to 202 with one patient dying from it. Four fresh cases found in the rural area has taken the total in the district to 37 with 3 deaths till now since January 1.

Of the four case reported from Olpad, Mangrol, Mandvi and Palsana, one is that of a one-year-old girl.


In Surat city five of the swine flu affected children include a month-old boy from Puna, nine-month-old boy from Sarthana, one-year-old girl from Ved Road, 4-year-old girl from Pandol and a 2-year-old-girl from Amroli . Other affected patients in the city are from Ghod dod road, Rustampura, Mota Varachha, Puna-Simada, Limbayat, Godadara, Katargam, Singanpore and Causeway areas.

Seven patients were discharged from different hospitals of the city, while 50 are still under treatment. Of them, 35 are stable, while nine patients are kept on ventilator and six on oxygen support.

Authorities surveyed 82,765 homes and checked 4,13, 825 people for swine flu. They found 352 persons showing symptoms of the diseases. While 313 are already under treatment, 38 were sent to nearby health centres for treatment.

Officials also gave 3,322 people who visited the health centres in the city ayurvedic Ukala to drink for immunity.
