With 29 new cases, Jharkhand tally at 664

Ranchi/Gumla/Jamshedpur: Jharkhand detected 29 fresh Covid cases from seven districts, including 10 from East Singhbhum and two from Ranchi, on Monday. With 22 cases reported from Dhanbad around midnight on Sunday, the total number of coronavirus cases in the state now stands at 664, of which 362 are active, 297 have recovered (including 40 from various districts on Monday) and five have succumbed to the disease.

“Almost 99% of the active cases are of migrants and we expect this trend to continue for the next fortnight as the many workers returning from red zones have been testing positive for the virus,” a senior health department official said.

In a Covid-19 bulletin issued at 9pm on Monday, the state health department said all 26 cases are migrants. Apart from East Singhbhum and Ranchi districts, Koderma recorded four cases, Hazaribag and Dhanbad three each, Simdega, Garhwa and Lohardaga two each and Gumla detected on patient on Monday.

Late on late Sunday night, Dhanbad reported its biggest single-day spike in Covid cases with 23 migrants testing positive (TOI had reported one case being detected in the coat hub as per data released by the state health department at 9pm).
