With Doctor On Leave, Mizoram MLA Helps Woman Deliver Her Baby, Saves Her Life

During a visit to assess the damage caused by the recent earthquakes and the coronavirus situation in Mizoram's Champhai district, a legislator named ZR Thiamsanga performed emergency surgery to help a woman deliver a baby

According to reports, Thiamsanga is a doctor by profession and specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Every time an emergency situation arises, he makes it a point to offer medical help to people in rural areas.

C Lalhmangaihsangi (38) from the remote Ngur village, who was expecting her second child, was bleeding profusely and her condition was critical, Thiamsanga told PTI.

The woman's doctor was on leave due to health issues.

MLA Thiamsanga was soon notified about the situation and he rushed to perform a cesarian surgery on her at Champai Hospital. Thiamsanga said it was his responsibility to help those in need.

This is not the first time that Thiamsanga has helped ailing citizens. In June, the MLA crossed a stream and walked several kilometres to attend to an ailing security personnel guarding the India-Myanmar border.

Thiamsanga contested the 2018 election on a Mizo National Front (MNF) ticket. He defeated the then Congress MLA TT Zothansanga. He is also the vice-chairman of the state Health and Family Welfare Board.
