Woman beaten with 'lathi' in road rage, video goes viral

Kanpur: A woman was assaulted with sticks by a man in Chapera Puliya area of Kalyanpur on Wednesday over a road rage.

The video of the incident showing the woman being hit with ‘lathi’ has gone viral on social media.

The police swung into action after wide circulation of the video and lodged an FIR against the accused, Rahul, and his aides for thrashing the woman.

The police said the incident took place in Chapera Puliya locality on late Wednesday evening when Ashish Nigam’s car had allegedly brushed the two-wheeler of one Rahul. And that enraged Rahul entered into a scuffle with Ashish. Later, with the intervention of locals, the matter was pacified.

Rahul again arrived at the spot, but this time with nearly a dozen of his accomplices armed with ‘lathis’.

“They reached Ashish’s house and attacked the latter and other women of his house. One among them rained ‘lathi' on a woman and the assault continued till someone from locality alerted police.

A few passers-by also tried to intervene, but they failed to stop the trouble as the goons threatened them with dire consequences.

Taking cognizance of the viral video, besides a complaint, the police initiated an investigation into the matter. “We have lodged an FIR under relevant sections of IPC and one person has been detained in this regard. Several police teams have been roped in and raids are underway to make the arrest of the accused possible,” said Inspector Ashwini Pandey.
