Woman falls from the bike during vehicle checking, died

Chennai: An elderly woman died in an accident in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu, during a police check-up attempt to stop the bike. In the Kallakurichi area, the police were carrying out a checking operation to nab the drunk drivers. Then in an attempt to stop a bike, a 63-year-old woman died after falling on the road.

According to the police, 5 policemen including constable Santosh were on checking duty of the vehicles. Then Senthil Kumar, riding on the bike, tried to leave from there without stopping. Senthil's mother Ayyammal was sitting on the bike behind. According to the police, Constable Santosh tried to stop the bike, then Ayyammal got his hand. At the same time, the people present in and around Senthil say that Santosh pushed Ayyammal, due to which the balance of the bike was disturbed. He alleges that due to this Ayyammal fell on the road and died due to severe head injury. Ayyammal was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The villagers blocked the road after the incident. Senior police officers who arrived at the scene assured action and all five policemen were transferred to Villupuram Armed Reserve. Earlier in Coimbatore, three youths were seriously injured in an accident during a search of vehicles.
