Woman falls prey to 'dowry' curse in Nayagarh

Nayagarh: A woman was allegedly murdered by her in-laws over dowry at Binodpara village under Ranapur Police limits of Nayagarh district. The deceased has been identified as Subhrakeshi Swain.

The family members of the deceased have alleged that her in-laws tried to burn the body after killing Subhrakeshi over dowry demand.

“Our daughter’s husband, her father-in-law and mother-in-law used to harass her mentally by demanding dowry. They were cremating her body without informing anyone which means that they have murdered her. Stringent punishment should be given to them as per law,” said a relative of Subhrakeshi.

While Ranapur Police seized Subhrakeshi’s half burnt body from the cremation ground, her in-laws have reportedly fled from the village.

“Based on the complaint lodged by the woman’s brother we started an investigation and recovered her body. We have registered a case in this regard and further investigation into the matter is underway,” informed IIC of Ranapur Police Station, Baidyanath Bhoi.

Subhrakeshi’s relatives along with some locals staged a road blockade at Binodpada Chhak on National Highway between Bolangir and Khurda to press their demands.
