Woman impersonates as Delhi Police officer, issues challans for violating COVID norms

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a woman for allegedly impersonating as a police officer and issuing challans for violation of COVID-19 norms.

The woman claimed to be an Assistant sub-inspector from Delhi Police. The city police officials say they have filed a case against the woman and initiated an investigation.

In a similar incident in December last year, a 38-year-old security guard was arrested by Delhi Police for impersonating as an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from Uttar Pradesh.

He allegedly harassed women by calling then and offering fake government jobs. He was arrested from a village in Gurugram on various charges including stalking and molestation.

The accused was identified as Gauri Shankar, a native of Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh.

The accused was also booked for “having an intent to outrage the modesty of a woman”.
