MOTIHARI: A 55-year-old mahadalit woman Gita Devi of Jihuli village under Patahi police station in East Champaran district was stripped and forced to drink human excreta by her co-villagers on the charge of practising witchcraft.

Gita’s tourture followed the death of Afsana Khatoon, granddaughter of a black magician (ojha) Majanu Mian. Patahi SHO Vikash Kumar Tiwari said that Majanu’s granddaughter Afsana Khatoon died of illness last week. “The villagers said that Majanu’s family members suspected that Afsana was killed by Gita with the help of witchcraft. Later, Majanu along with his family members caught Gita while she was cutting grass in an agriculture field near the village, stripped her and forced to drink human excreta through a bottle. She was also beaten up severely,” the SHO added.

Gita lost two teeth in the incident and was admitted to Patahi PHC. A case has been lodged with the Patahi police station on Monday by Bija Ram against Majanu and four members of his family. Police are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
