Woman thrashed by mob in Ayodhya, dies
Faizabad: An unidentified woman in her mid-40s thrashed and chased by locals in Ayodhya late on Sunday night on the suspicion of being a thief died of injuries in hospital on Monday morning.
Police said the woman was loitering in Kotsarai area of Cantonment police station in Ayodhya around Sunday midnight.
When the chowkidar and locals confronted her, she did not respond and tried to escape.
The locals thrashed and chased her. She bumped into a pole while running and fell down unconscious after which the mob dispersed. The woman lay unattended the whole night.
When some passersby saw her lying injured on Monday morning, they informed police. A police team reached the spot and took the woman to district hospital where she died an hour after she was admitted.
Faizabad Deputy SP, Arvind Chaurasiya, told TOI, “As per preliminary probe, the woman sustained injuries after she bumped into a pole while being chased by locals on suspicion of being a thief. The postmorterm report is awaited.”
