Work on Rs 19 crore Central Park begins in Nashik

NASHIK: The contractor appointed by the civic administration has started work on the Central Park project in the city.

The project, which will be developed on 17 acres in Cidco division of the city, is estimated to cost around Rs 19 crore. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will get Rs 9.5 crore from the state government.



Facilities like game zone for children, amphitheatre, electrification, parking, e-toilets, gardens and other facilities are to be developed in the central park.

On one side there will be a party lawn and beside it food court with kiosks. The parking lot will also have a bus lane for connectivity.

Rainwater harvesting and renewable energy will be facilitated through tree pods.

The standing committee of NMC had given approval to the proposal of the civic administration to give work order to the private contractor Mumbai-based D B Infratech to develop Central Park, in the first week of September.

“But the project was delayed because of the code of conduct due to state assembly elections. The civic administration has given work order to the contractor concerned. The contractor has now started developing the Central Park project in Ambad areas of the city. Presently, the levelling of the 17 acres plot is being done,” said NMC official.

The erstwhile amusement park – Pelican Park that was stuck in litigation for years, is now being developed as Central Park

The sprawling 17-acre land in CIDCO scheme number 3, Morwadigoan that was handed over to the Pune-based company. The Pelican Park was opened for public in 1997, but was closed down in 1999. Since then, the Pelican park was in a shambles and the instruments were defunct.

Last year, the then municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe had taken decision to develop Pelican Park as Central Park following demands from the corporators and citizens. Thereafter, the General Body and standing committee of NMC had given approval to the proposal of the civic administration to develop the Central Park.
