Yamunanagar: Teacher arrested for abusing girl students

Yamunanagar: A teacher of a government primary school in a village of Yamunanagar district was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly sexually harassing girls students. He was beaten by villagers on Wednesday following allegations.

A video of the thrashing incident went viral in the area and the 45-year-old teacher was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and sections 376-AB (punishment for rape on woman under twelve years of age) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Chhachhrauli police station on Wednesday.



Police said the accused teacher was produced before the court that sent him to judicial custody. Chhachhrauli station house officer (SHO) Mukesh Kumar said, “The accused was earlier booked after the statements of five minor girls under Section 164 (recording of confession and statements) of the CrPC before the magistrate. The investigation is being done by a woman police officer of the Yamunanagar women police station.”

Woman sub-inspector Kusum Lata said, “The accused has confessed to his crime and his statements have been recorded in the court. He has been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is being done.”

Sources said matter came to the notice of some parents on Tuesday when the girls disclosed their ordeal to them.

The viral video shows that the parents on school premises on Wednesday morning and the accused teacher being thrashed by 4-5 women. On receiving the information, the police had to send force from Chhachhrauli police station as the parents had locked down the gate of the school.

Meanwhile, district education officer Anand Chaudhary has constituted a three-member committee headed by Chhachhrauli block education officer Dharam Rathi to investigate the matter.
