Yaya Toure slammed after leaving Brazilian side "disgusted" by transfer U-turn

Yaya Toure has been slammed by a Brazilian club boss for misleading them in transfer talks.

Botofogo vice-chairman Ricardo Rotenberg believed he had Toure's word after talks between the pair over a move to Brazil's Serie A.

But it's emerged the former Manchester City Premier League winner has committed to a deal with Botafogo rivals Vasco da Gama – leaving Rotenberg enraged.

Toure, 37 earlier this month, has been without a club for six months after leaving Chinese League One side Qingdao Huanghai.

It was believed City midfield legend Toure, who won three league titles at City as well as two La Liga crowns and the Champions League at Barcelona, was set for a coaching career but decided to put that on hold for another season playing.

Having held talks, Botofogo thought they'd convinced the former Barcelona star to join them for the new season – but the four-time CAF African Footballer of the Year has confirmed he's joining Vasco.

Toure was enlisted by lawyer Luiz Roberto Leven Siano in his bid to be elected as Vasco' da Gama's next President in November.

The City midfielder appeared on Siano's Instagram page saying : “I want to thank Leven for including me in this project.

"I can hardly wait to see all the Vasco fans very soon. It is going to be Vasco."

But raging Botafogo boss Rotenberg blasted Toure saying: “I'm disgusted. He's a guy who's word means nothing. He has an attitude but no character.”

The mystery deepened with Rotenberg claiming he spoke to Leon Mann, one of Toure's advisors in the UK, who said he was unaware of any decision taken by the star on joining Vasco da Gama.
