'You can't afford me': Here's how much Virender Sehwag demanded from Sky Sports for commentary

NEW DELHI: Virender Sehwag disclosed that he was once considered for a commentator position by Sky Sports . The British sports broadcaster had shown interest in adding Sehwag to their cricket commentary team.

However, the arrangement ultimately did not come to fruition. Sehwag stated that the primary reason for the deal falling through was that Sky Sports "could not afford" his services.

In a candid exchange on the YouTube podcast Club Prairie Fire, Sehwag found himself among the company of cricketing greats like Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan . Sharing a revealing anecdote, he mentioned that he once informed Sky Sports that they simply couldn't meet his asking price.


"Sky Sports once called and said we would love to have you in our panel. I said you can't afford me, they said 'no, no give us your price', I said '£10,000 (10.41 Lakhs) a day'. They concluded 'yes, you're right. We cannot afford you'", Sehwag said.

The former opener Sehwag also trolled Gilchrist during the conversation when he asked about the Indian players participation in the other T20 leagues.

"Do you see a time when Indian players will be able to play in other T20 leagues?" Gilchrist asked.

Sehwag's response to the question was both swift and memorable. With a touch of lighthearted overstatement, he remarked, "No, we don't need to. We are rich people, we don't go to poor countries for other leagues."

Sehwag also recounted a moment when he turned down an offer from the Big Bash League due to the offered amount being insufficient.

"I still remember when I was dropped from the Indian team and I was playing IPL. Then I got an offer from BBL that I should participate in the Big Bash, I said okay how much money, they said $100,000.

"I said I can spend that money in my holidays, even last night's bill was more than that," the 45-year-old jokingly revealed.
