Youth arrested for impregnating minor girl on marriage pretext

Berhampur: A youth allegedly impregnated a minor girl in Gangpur area of Odisha’s Ganjam district on the pretext of marrying her. The accused, identified as Mangulu Nayak, has been arrested.

According to police sources, Nayak had established physical relation with the girl on the promise of marriage. Later, the victim was found to be pregnant.

A meeting at village-level was convened to resolve the matter, but it yielded no solution.

Family members of the girl had then lodged a complaint with Gangpur police, on the basis of which a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the accused was apprehended. He will be sent for medical examination, sources added.
