Youth hangs self in Karauli district sub-jail
JAIPUR: A 23-year-old jail inmate on Tuesday allegedly hanged himself in Hindaun sub-jail of Karauli district .
Mahendera Singh alias Kalla was found hanging inside a store room after breakfast around 8am. He was lodged at the sub-jail since past one month, following his arrest in a case under the Arms Act.
The jail authorities said that Singh used a towel as rope to hang himself.
“Singh and other prisoners had walked out of their barracks for breakfast, he went into one of the dingy store rooms and hanged himself. We have not recovered any suicide note,” said an official, adding that doctors posted in the jail had declared Singh dead, following which the police and judicial officials were informed. “We have shifted the body to the mortuary. Once his family members arrive, a postmortem will be conducted,” the officials said, adding investigation into the case is on.
