Zutshi reviews West Tripura poll reports

AGARTALA: Former deputy election commissioner Vinod Zutshi, who has been appointed as special observer, reviewed all the election-related reports, documents and video footages in respect of polls to the West Tripura constituency on Wednesday.

All assistant returning officers (AROs) were present with all reports, documents and soft copies of video footages.

He is going to send his recommendations to the EC based on the records. The Election Commission has not yet decided to hold repolling in the West Tripura parliamentary constituency where election was held on April 11 last. While Congress has demanded fresh polls in West Tripura, CPM is strict on its demand of holding fresh polls in 846 booths. The Left party claimed that there was large-scale booth capturing and rigging in the constituency at the behest of ruling BJP and a top police officer. The EC has already held several rounds of meetings with CEO Sriram Taranikanti and also interacted with major political parties over allegations of unlawful activities. However, despite spending a huge amount of money, the commission failed to ensure webcasting and videography of the polling process due to destruction of cameras.
