116 COVID-19 Deaths in Maharashtra in 24 Hrs, Highest in One Day

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, 29 May, said that all places of worship will open from 1 June, but not more than 10 people will be allowed, including no assembly at religious places.

After talking to the chief ministers of various states, Amit Shah meets PM Modi on Friday to discuss lockdown strategy.

India recorded the highest one-day spike with 7,466 new COVID-19 cases on Friday taking the case tally to 1,65,799, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. While active cases are at 89,987, as many as 71,105 people have recovered or cured. The death toll is at 4,706.

India has moved to the ninth position in the list of worst-affected countries during the coronavirus pandemic, as per the Johns Hopkins University tracker. The country has now surpassed Turkey and Iran.

    Uttarakhand Health Department said, “114 more persons test positive for COVID-19 in the state, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 716.”

    Jammu and Kashmir Record 128 New Cases Today

    Government of Jammu and Kashmir said, “128 new cases, including 36 from Jammu, 92 from Kashmir and one death reported today; the total number of positive cases in the union territory is now 2,164.”

    With 116 Deaths, Maharashtra Records Highest No. of Casualties in 1 Day

    Maharashtra Health Department said, “The state recorded 116 deaths today, the highest number of deaths due to COVID-19 in a single day. 2,682 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported today; taking the total number of cases to 62,228. Death toll stands at 2,098,” reports ANI.

    Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “over four lakh migrant workers have returned to Jharkhand so far and plans are afoot to provide work opportunities to 10 lakh people.”

    874 Fresh Cases in Tamil Nadu; Tally Rises to 20,246

    Tamil Nadu Health Department said, “874 new positive cases reported in the state today, taking the total positive patients in the state to 20,246,” reports ANI.

    Karnataka Records 248 More Positive Cases

    Karnataka Health Department said, “248 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state today; the total number of positive cases in the state is now 2,781, death toll 48.”

    6 More Residents Who Returned From Other States Test Positive in Meghalaya

    Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma said, “six more residents who returned to state have tested positive for COVID-19; three from South West Garo Hills, one from West Garo Hills,one from East Khasi Hills and one from West Khasi Hills. They had come from Maharashtra, Bengaluru, West Bengal and Chennai.”

    Total 206 AIIMS Healthcare Workers Contract COVID-19

    At least 206 frontline workers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi have tested positive for COVID-19 since 1 February.

    Recently, 11 healthcare staff were reported positive on Friday. Thirty tested positive on Thursday, reports ANI.

    3,414 COVID-19 Patients Cured in 24 Hrs, Recovery Rate at 42.89%: Govt

    “The number of COVID-19 cases under active medical supervision is 89,987. So far, a total of 71,105 people have been cured. In the last 24 hours, 3,414 patients were found cured. This takes the total recovery rate to 42.89 percent,” the Government of India said, reports ANI.

    “All places of worship, mandir, masjid, gurudwara...will open, but not more than 10 people will be allowed, no assembly at religious places. This will be implemented from 1 June,” said West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

    Out of 82 Deaths in Delhi on Thursday, 69 Late Reporting Cases: Deputy CM Sisodia

    Amid the reports about under-reporting of COVID-19 deaths in Delhi, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia says, "82 deaths were added to the toll yesterday, out of these 13 took place in last 24 hours while 69 happened over last 34 days but the information has been corroborated now," ANI reports.
