134 sovereigns jewellery, Rs 6.65 lakh burgled from two houses

Virudhunagar: Burglars broke open two locked houses at Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district and stole 134 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 6.65 lakh in cash.

Santosh Kumar, an AMMK functionary of Krishnankoil near Srivilliputhur and his family members had gone to a relative’s home at Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district on Monday morning. They returned home on Monday night and found the door broken open and 85 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 6 lakh cash missing.

In another incident, Murugan, a businessman of Nambi Nayadu Street in Srivilliputhur had gone to Madurai on Monday morning and returned home in the early hours of Tuesday. He noticed that the door of the house broken open and 49 sovereigns of gold and Rs 65,000 in cash stolen.

The Srivilliputhur Town police registered separate cases and are investigating.
