14-year-old boy who won Rs 1 crore in KBC 2001 is SP of Porbandar now

A 14-year-old boy who answered the 15 questions of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Junior correctly in 2001 and won Rs 1 crore took charge as the Superintendent of Police, Porbandar on Tuesday. Dr Ravi Mohan Saini, now 33, is an Indian Police Services (IPS) officer.

Saini, who is from Alwar in Rajasthan, is the son of a retired Navy officer.

He did his schooling from Naval Public School in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

He was in class 10 when he appeared in KBC Junior in 2001. He was only 14 at that time. "I was the winner of Rs 1 crore. However, I got Rs 69 lakh after deduction of taxes, four years later," he told TOI in a 2017 interview. As per the rules of the show, the prize money is given to the winners after they turn 18.

After school, Saini did MBBS from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College in Jaipur.

He was inspired by his father to join the police force.

He tried his luck in Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination in 2012 and 2013, however, he secured the job he wanted only in 2014. He was selected for the Indian Police Service in Gujarat cadre. He had got an all-India rank 461.

Before being transferred to Porbandar, Saini was serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 1 in Rajkot city. He was given the charge of Porbandar on Tuesday.

"My role would be the implementation of lockdown in Porbandar in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Also, law and order situation remains our topmost priority," Saini told The Indian Express

KBC is set to return for Season 12. The first round of registrations of KBC 2020 was held earlier this month.
