2 bore wells found open at Mansa village, land owners to face action

Bathinda: Mansa DC Apneet Riyait has directed Mansa SSP to register a case against owners of a private land at Khiala Kalan village in the district, where two open borewells were found on Tuesday.

Mansa block development and panchayat office had received a complaint of two borewells lying open at Khiala Kalan village.

After inspection, it was found that villager Rachpal Singh had dug up a 3-foot wide and 10-foot-deep pit for use of toilets in his land near Gurdwara Beri Sahib at the village. Similarly, Rakesh Kumar from the same village had dug up a 6-foot wide and 12-foot-deep bore well, which too was found open. The administration has got the pits filled with earth.

DC Apneet Riyait said, “Any mishap could have happened if these wells remained open. Strict action will be taken against owners of private land, where any well is found open.”

Mansa SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said, “The letter so far has not reached my office, but definitely appropriate action will be taken against the owners of the land where open bore wells have been found.”

Two-year-old Fatehvir Singh had fallen in an open 125-foot deep bore well near his home at Bhagwanpura village in Sangrur. His body was pulled out of the bore well by the NDRF after five days on June 11. After the incident the state government had directed the DCs to get all open bore wells plugged in their respective districts. Tandrust Punjab mission director Kahan Singh Pannu on June 29 had claimed that 2,309 open bore wells had been plugged across the state by various departments.
