2 workers die of burns from molten iron in Dindori factory

Nashik: Two workers of a Dindori-based company died and one other suffered 90% burns when a drum of molten iron fell on them while they were at work early on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place at Palkhed in Dindori taluka, about 40km from Nashik .

The deceased have been identified as Komalkumar Gautam, 21, and Pramod Paswan, 35.

Both hailed from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh.

The Dindori police said the condition of the third person, 20-year-old Bhupendra Prasad from Uttar Pradesh, is critical and he is being treated at a private hospital in Nashik city.

Anil Borse, the Dindori police station inspector, said the three men were at work in a factory that manufactures iron bars. At around 2 am, the three workers were trying to add nitrogen to the mixture of molten iron and other chemicals. As the added nitrogen was not getting properly mixed with the molten iron, the workers decided to reduce the temperature of the mixture.

However, their experiment failed. A huge amount of steam developed inside the drum of the molten iron and the scalding mixture erupted out of it. The molten iron fell on the workers. Komalkumar Gautam died on the spot. The other workers in the night shift arranged for an ambulance and rushed the victims to a private hospital in Nashik city. Paswan died while undergoing treatment, while Prasad is battling for his life.

Borse said that the families of the three workers reside in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The workers stayed locally in Dindori.

“We have registered a case of accidental death,” added Borse.
