276 caught for cheating in exams against 558 last year in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL: The cheating cases in class 12 exams of MP boards were reduced to half this year, shows data. 276 students were caught cheating while writing examinations this year against 558 last year.

Secretary of the MP Board of Secondary Education Anil Suchari, said that the combined efforts of the board and district collectors helped in reducing the cases of cheating and expressed confidence that the number will further decline next year.

This year there were 3,657 exam centres in the state with over 6.6 lakh regular students and more than 1.2 students taking private exams for class 12.

“The board had identified red zones like Bhind, Morena, Tikamgarh and Dhar where cases of mass copying and cheating were high. Then CCTV cameras were installed in these centres, which made students more cautious. The fear of being caught on camera was very effective,” he said.

Explaining the collectors’ role in reducing copying cases, he said that the collectors of many ‘notorious’ districts ordered to make videos of the students taking the exams to instill fear of consequences, so that exams can be conducted fairly,” said Suchari.

In 2019, the board had found 558 cases of cheating in many districts of the state and strict action was taken again them, which consequently bewared students against such malpractice. “As the board has taken strict measures against students caught cheating in the past, the number of cases of cheating have been on the decline since the last few years. In 2018, we had 1190 cases of copying while in 2019, there were only 558 cases of copying. This year the number was further reduced to 276,” he said.
