3 teenage boys drown in a nullah in Rajura

Chandrapur: Three teenage boys drowned in a nullah near the Ambuja Cement factory in Rajura tehsil.

The trio entered the nullah to have a splash. The boys drowned because none of them knew how to swim and the water, too, was deep.

Before meeting a watery end, Sarthak Alhat (12), Shubham Gorjre (14) and their friend Anunay played cricket in the morning at the Ambuja Colony ground.

On their way back, the trio met Manjeet Singh (14) after which, they all kept their cycles near the main gate and went to the nullah near village Mangi at around 9am.

While Sarthak, Shubham and Manjeet entered the water to take a dip, Anunay stayed back on the banks of the nullah to take care of the trio’s clothes.

When Anunay noticed that his friends had not surfaced, he ran towards the Ambuja Cement Colony.

He met Man Singh midway and narrated the incident. Singh then rushed to the nullah where the water was nearly 10 feet deep. He jumped into the water and fished out the three boys. They were rushed to the Gadchandur rural hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead.

Based on the complaint filed by security officer Vilas Narkehde of Amuja Cement company, Gadchandur police have registered a case of accidental death. While Sarthak, Manjeet were local boys, Subham Gojre was visiting his maternal uncle Gopal Burhade, who works for Ambuja Cement.
