30 farmers booked for stubble burning in Fatehgarh Sahib

FATEHGARH SAHIB: In a move to curb the stubble burning , the district administration in Fatehgarh Sahib has taken stringent actions against the farmers and registered 30 cases whereas, around 41 farmers have been slapped fines as environmental compensation.


The move has been initiated after the instructions from the higher authorities to take action against the erring farmers burning the paddy straw.

Besides this, some farmers have been arrested for burning the stubble despite having been provided subsidised tools for stubble management.

ADC (Development) Jagwinder Singh Sandhu said, “With the worsening of AQI following stubble burning, we had left with no other option and thus the farmers were booked and arrested. The environmental compensation amounting Rs 1.55 lakh has been imposed on 41 farmers.”

Amrit Kaur Gill, deputy commissioner, Fatehgarh Sahib, also held a meeting with the officials of agriculture department in this regard. The deputy commissioner said that the control rooms have been established at sub-division level and the information regarding the incidents of stubble burning can be given at the control room number of Fatehgarh Sahib- 01763-232099, Bassi Pathana- 01763-252748, Amloh- 01765-230029 and Khamano- 01628-260700. Quick action would be taken.

Gill informed that the district administration has constituted flying squads who are keeping vigil in every village to ensure that farmers don’t burn the stubble. “I once again appeal the farmers to make optimum use of the techniques and machinery for managing the paddy residue that we jointly can save the environment from pollution,” appealed the deputy commissioner.
