30 more test +ve in Manipur, active count rises to 656

IMPHAL: Thirty more people, including five women, tested positive for Covid-19 at the VRDLs of RIMS and JNIMS in Imphal and the district hospitals of Thoubal and Ukhrul in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 2,176.

Barring three of these cases — one each from Imphal East , Imphal West and Thoubal districts — the rest are returnees from other parts of the country, a state health department statement said on Saturday.



All necessary medical measures such as containment and contact tracing are in place to combat the spread of the virus, it said.

The statement said 1,520 patients have recovered from the disease, leaving the active cases to 656.

The recovery rate is 69.85%, said the statement signed by the department’s additional director and spokesperson Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang .

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles troops on Thursday recovered medicines worth Rs 7,90,357 meant for smuggling them to Myanmar from two trucks in Kamjong district, said a rifles statement on Saturday.

The recovered medicines along with the drivers and co-drivers of the vehicles were handed over to Kasom Khullen police station in the district for further legal actions.

On the other hand, the Sajik Tampak battalion of the paramilitary force’s 28 sector distributed 1,000 face masks to the people of Kana valley in Chandel district in view of the global pandemic situation, the statement added.
