₹37.6L worth stolen items, cash seized

Visakhapatnam: City police has managed to recover stolen property worth 37.63 lakh during the last one month. The cops said that this year, property and cash collectively worth around 54 lakh were stolen in 68 cases registered between April 1 and April 30 in the city. Police managed to recover 351 lost and stolen mobile phones worth 52 lakh in April and handed them over to their respective owners.

Dr K Fakeerappa Kagineli, joint commissioner of police, said that they had informed special teams to investigate property offences in all angles and the teams detected 49 cases ub April. As many as 66 property offenders were arrested and over 37.63 lakh cash was recovered.

“Of the 49 cases detected in the city, two were of dacoity, one of robbery, 22 were house-break-in incidents, three were snatching, one car theft and 20 were ordinary thefts,” he added.

As part of preventive measures, during April-2024, 454 CCTV cameras were installed in various places across the city, 167 awareness meetings were conducted by the crime wing officers and awareness drives were held for public to educate them about types of crime and criminals and usages of the CCTV cameras.
