3,853kg drugs seized till lockdown 4.0 in Haryana

CHANDIGARH: Haryana police have seized 1,674kg narcotic substances and arrested close to 12 dozen accused in connection with drug trafficking cases across the state during lockdown between May 23 and May 31.


With this, the total figure of drugs confiscated during the lockdown period jumped to 3,853kg.

The crackdown also resulted in the arrest of 143 accused that were directly or indirectly involved in pushing drugs into the state.

Confirming this, Navdeep Singh Virk , additional director general of police (Law and Order), said that following a multi-pronged approach, police teams including the Special Task Force (STF) strangulated the supply of almost all types of narcotic substances in the state. Besides ensuring strict lockdown, police have stepped up action against traffickers and drug cartels which resulted in a whopping figure of drug seizure in the state.

Out of total, 94 cases, the maximum 31 cases under NDPS Act were registered in Rohtak district where 52 accused were arrested. Similarly, 21 cases were registered in Sirsa, eight in Fatehabad, and four each in Karnal and Palwal.

Haryana Police have seized 2,179kg drugs worth crores during the Covid-19 lockdown between March 23 and May 22.
