39 write exam from house in Karnataka's Raichur, held

HUBBALLI: Police raided a house in Raichur city on Sunday and took 39 students into custody for alleged exam malpractice.

The students, from various colleges of the city, were writing Gulbarga University 's BCom second-semester Industrial Economics examination.

Police conducted the raid following a tip-off and arrested Pavan Kumar Hanumantappa, who was supervising the examination.

"The exam was to be held at a designated centre, but these students were writing it in a rented building. The doors of the house were locked. We forced them to open the door and found that students were involved in mass copying," said Umesh M, circle police inspector of Raichur West police station.

DM Madari, registrar (evaluation), Gulbarga University, said he learnt about the incident from the media and he will go to Raichur on Monday. The centre involved will be blacklisted and students will be barred, he said.
