4 Rajasthan districts fail to reap benefits of 42% excess rainfall

JIPUR: Despite 42% excess rainfall in which floods were witnessed at many districts, four districts including Sriganganagar , Hanumangarh , Karauli and Alwar have received deficit rainfall.


These districts even failed to recover even when the state had received maximum rainfall from August 15 to September 15.



Meanwhile, two persons were killed in Jaisalmer when the jeep in which they were travelling washed away in a rain-fed river.

Rajasthan in this season so far has received nearly 42% excess rainfall as the state till September 27 has received a rainfall of 752.36 mm compared to what it received during this period in 2018. “Be it is Hadauti region covering Kota, Jhalawar, Baran and Bundi districts or the Marwar region consisting of Dungarpur, Banswara, Udaipur and Rajsamand everywhere heavy rainfall was witnessed in this season. However, four districts in the state have fared badly this year,” said an officer with the Jaipur Met office.

The worst parched district is Sriganganagar where a rainfall of 120.40 mm which is negligible in a whole monsoon season is witnessed. “Sriganganagar has received 40% deficit rainfall compared to what it received in the 2018 monsoon,” said an officer.

This is followed by Hanumangarh where a rainfall of 180.86 mm is recorded in the whole monsoon season. “Be it Sriganganagar or Hanumangarh both are agriculture rich districts where the economy is fully dependent it. These two districts are badly parched this year,” said an officer with the agriculture research institute in Bikaner. On the other hand two districts of eastern Rajasthan including Alwar and Karauli too have received deficit rainfall. “Alwar has received a rainfall of 373. 39 mm compared to 551.40 mm received in the whole monsoon season in 2018,” an officer added.

Karauli which has been fluctuating between normal and deficit rainfall during the monsoon season is now in the category of deficit rainfall. “Karauli has received a rainfall of 513.36 mm compared to 635 mm what it had received in 2018,” said an officer.
