4 Tamil Nadu engineering students drinking on rly tracks run over by train

COIMBATORE: Four engineering students , who were consuming liquor sitting on a railway track at Ravuthur Pirivu in Coimbatore, were fatally run over a speeding train on Wednesday night, the Government Railway Police said. One student suffered minor injuries.

The incident happened after 10.30pm. The students were run over by Alleppey -Chennai Express train.



The loco pilot informed his superiors about it who in turn alerted the railway police. The bodies were scattered on the railway track.

The deceased have been identified as Siddiq Raja of Kodaikanal, Rajasekar of Nilakottai in Dindigul and Karuppasamy and Gowtham, both from Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district.

The police said Siddiq was a final year BE student and Rajasekar was a third year student. Both of them were studying in a private engineering college at Sulur here. Karuppasamy and Gowtham were here to attend examinations to clear their arrears.

Vignesh from Theni escaped with minor injuries.

The bodies were sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.


The GRP, Podanur, registered a case and further investigations were on.
