5-yr-old raped in Chittorgarh, accused held

UDAIPUR: A 5-year-old girl who had gone to buy milk from a nearby shop was raped by a neighbourhood youth in Mohar Mangri area under Kotwali police station limits in Chittorgarh, the police said on Thursday. Like in the Alwar gang-rape case, police have been accused of being insensitive in this case too.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon.

The child and her parents were allegedly kept waiting for four-and-a-half hours before the complaint was registered and a medical examination was conducted.

The accused Dalchand Bhil (30) was later arrested on the basis of identification by the child, who is in the hospital.

“The child is out of danger,” SP Chittorgarh, Anil Kayal said.

The child's parents are labourers, who live in kachhi basti. It was a routine activity for the child to go to the nearby shop to buy milk. On Wednesday, when she went to the shop, the accused took her to a deserted area and raped her, said police.

When the child didn't return for long, her mother went out looking for her and found her in a pitiable condition.

The couple rushed to the police station around 5pm. They alleged that the policemen kept them waiting and didn't take the complaint seriously.

Finally, it was around 9.30pm when an FIR was registered and the child was taken for medical examination, that confirmed her being sexually assaulted.
