Agra: With the arrest of eight men, Etah police has busted a gang that stole a truck loaded with footwear consignment for Maharashtra earlier in the month.

According to police, footwear worth Rs 19 lakh packed in 109 cartons was recovered along with the truck.

The men who were apprehended were identified as Tillu Singh, Ved Vayas (truck driver), Kuldeep Gupta, Dinkar Mishra, Vineet Mishra, Sonu Gupta, Vikas Chaudhary and Rajeev Gupta.

Four members of the gang — Ankur, Anu Yadav, Amarpal and Brijesh — are still absconding.

Sunil Kumar Singh, superintendent of police, Etah, said, “On August 18, a consignment of 137 cartons of footwear was dispatched in a truck from a factory based in Runkata, under Sikandra police jurisdiction of Agra district, for Akola in Maharashtra. But the truck driver, Ved Vayas, drove the truck toward Etah. Later, a gang armed with weapons took over the truck along with the footwear consignment worth lakhs.

“During the probe, our team busted the gang and has arrested eight people, while those who are absconding will soon be arrested,” he added.
