974 kg ganja in Ganjam, two arrested: Cops seize

Berhampur: Police have seized more than 974 kg of cannabis, esteemed at around Rs 90 lakh, from a vehicle in Odisha’s Ganjam locale and captured two people regarding the case, an authority said Tuesday.

Following up on a tip-off, a police group led watching and checking of the vehicles on the National Highway-16 and kept the truck conveying the booty close Golagandapalli under Rambha police headquarters territory, Ganjam Superintendent of Police Brijesh Ray said.

Two people, including the driver of the truck, were captured Monday under pertinent arrangements of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, for unlawfully moving the cannabis, he said including that the stash was being moved from Lankagada in Koraput area towards Bhubaneswar.

Generally 37 packs of cannabis were seized, Chhatrapur sub divisional cop Utkal Keshari Das said.

As indicated by another police official, this was one of the real seizures of cannabis in the area this year.

Rambha police headquarters’ examiner in-control Krushna Chandra Sethi said the booty was secured with the packs of ragi and corn to beguile authorities.

In February and March this year, police had seized more than 1400 kg of cannabis in two distinctive hunt tasks.
