Absconding drug peddler kills daughter and injures wife

HOSHIARPUR: A drug peddler who had escaped from police custody last year in June, shot dead his daughter and injured his wife on Friday night. He was facing at least eight cases. After having run away from the jail, this was the first time he came to his village Denowal Khurd Basti Saasian near Garhshankar in district Hoshiarpur .

It is learnt that accused Major Singh, was in jail and was facing trials for all the 8 cases but had managed to escape from the police custody. He came to his residence night and closed the door of his house. “The couple already had strained relations and as soon as he entered the house his wife told him following which there was an altercation between the two. The accused fired at his wife Rajni and when his elder daughter Priya raised an alarm and tried to come in between he fired at her and the bullet pierced through her head and caused an injury leading to the death of the girl on the spot,” said Garhshankar SHO Gagangdeep Singh.

Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing screams and gun shots but Major managed to flee after firing at his wife and daughter. His wife was earlier taken to a clinic in Garnshahnkar and later rushed to the hospital. The couple also have a seven year old younger daughter who was also at home. She later told the police that she hid under a bed when she saw her father firing at her mother.

“He had total eight cases including some under NDPS Act case. He had criminal record and after escaping from the custody he came to his house for the first time,” said the SHO. Police officials said that he aimed to kill his wife but she escaped with injuries and the elder daughter who tried to come in between to save the mother was killed in the process.
