After Covid spike in Prayagraj, containment zones soar to 1,201

PRAYAGRAJ: The recent surge in Covid cases in the Sangam city, with 979 new patients being detected in last five days, has taken the tally to over 3,800, and now Prayagraj has the highest number of containment zones in the range.

Incidentally, the number of containment zones in Prayagraj district is more than double of the combined tally of Kaushambi, Pratapgarh and Fatehpur, the remaining three districts in the range.



As per statistics revealed by the health department on Sunday, Prayagraj district has 1,201 containment zones, followed by Kaushambi (117), Fatehpur (282) and Pratapgarh (123).

In Prayagraj, 67% of total 1,201 containment zones are in urban and semi urban areas and remaining in trans-Ganga and -Yamuna areas.

Additional director, health, Dr Sudhakar Pandey told TOI, “More Covid-19 cases have been detected in urban and semi urban areas of Prayagraj, and as a result, more containment zones have been created in theses pockets.”

He added “The tally of containment zones in Prayagraj district crossed 1,200-mark on August 8, while it was just 453 on July 22, a big increase in a fortnight.”

In Kaushambi, there are total 445 Covid cases and the number of the containment zones has increased to 117, from 66 on July 22.

The tally of Covid cases in Pratapgarh has also risen to 839 and the number of containment zones increased to 123 subsequently. The number of containment zones in Pratapgarh was mere 25 on July 22.

The sudden spike in coronavirus infection in Prayagraj district has left leaving health department officials worried as 979 new cases were detected just in a span of five days from August 4 to August 8.

As per health department records, 199, 198, 180, 226 and 176 cases were reported on August 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 respectively. Besides, 15 patients also succumbed due to Covid in these five days.

Dr. Pandey said, “Since the virus infection is spreading, the health department has decided to launch another week-long door to door survey to trace Covid suspects from August 10 in urban and semi urban pockets. The survey would be completed by August 16. The department has already chalked out an elaborate plan for conducting the survey and around 200 health teams would be engaged in the task.

Officials of the health department further informed that there are total 1,664 active cases in Prayagraj, while the number of active cases in neighbouring Pratapgarh and Kaushambi districts stood at 522 and 138 respectively.

There have been 72 Covid-19 casualties in Prayagraj, followed by 17 in Pratapgarh and four in Kaushambi till August 8.
