Ahmedabad at 2-month low; Surat leads

District reports 197 cases on Tuesday, lower than Surat’s 199; as many as 620 test positive for Covid across State

Ahmedabad district on Tuesday reported 197 new cases of Covid-19, which is the lowest in over two months—there were 164 cases on April 28. The new cases are lower than the ones in Surat district, which reported 199 cases in 24 hours, the highest in Gujarat.

This is for the first time in 3 months that Ahmedabad was not at the top of the list of new cases.

Out of the total 197 cases, as many as 183 were reported from within Ahmedabad corporation limits and 14 from the other parts of the district. All nine deaths in Ahmedabad were reported from within the city limits. At the same time, 137 more coronavirus patients recovered from the disease in the worst-hit Gujarat district, taking the number of such cases to 15,968.

State reports 600+ cases for 4th day

June ended on a worrisome note for the State as it reported more than 600 cases on the fourth straight day. There were 620 new cases on Tuesday, taking the tally to 32,643 till now. As many as 20 patients succumbed to the infection in 24 hours.

Vadodara reported 52 cases, Valsad 20, Jamnagar 18, Gandhinagar 16, Anand 14, Patan 11, Kutch nine, Bharuch and Bhavnagar eight each, Mehsana seven, Kheda six, Aravalli and Panchmahals five each, Sabarkantha, Botad and Surendranagar four each.

With 199 cases on Tuesday, Surat’s tally went up to 4,829. The state reported 20 deaths of Covid-19 patients on Tuesday. Besides 9 in Ahmedabad, 4 were in Surat, 2 in Vadodara, 2 in Gandhinagar and 1each in Junagadh, Patan and Navsari. The death toll in Gujarat reached 1,848 till date.

AHNA helpline for Covid facilities

The Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (AHNA) on June 30 launched a 24x7 helpline facility with two phone lines that will provide information about healthcare facilities and vacancies at nearest hospitals for admission. This step has been taken to avoid inconvenience for patients as they and their relatives would otherwise end up visiting multiple hospitals in search of vacant beds. The numbers are 079-26409999 and 079-26403333.

zones in the city while adding two new ones to the list. The total number of zones is now at 44. The new ones include Asopalav Society in Vatva in south zone and Rajavir Society in Thakkarbapanagar in the north zone of the city. The AMC said it will conduct intense door-to-door surveillance in the newly added areas. The ones that have been dissolved include Parnakunj Society in Asarwa and Vishnukunj Society in Shahibaug in central zone; Shukan City in Ranip and Keshavkunj in Sabarmati in west zone; and Sthapatya Society in Thaltej and Satellite Centre in Bodakdev in northwest zone.
