Airport road needs flyovers: Manish Tewari

MOHALI: Member of Parliament from Anandpur Sahib constituency, Manish Tiwari, has expressed his belief to construct flyovers or elevated road to give smooth flow of traffic on the airport road. Municipal corporation of Mohali Corporation has proposed four junctions as strategic locations where flyovers can come up to decongest the road.

Tiwari reviewed the ongoing development projects in Mohali on Friday. Sharing the purpose of his visit, he said, “I wanted to get an overview about how exactly we are going to surmount the challenges as the city grows and develops. The purpose of the visit is to absorb the information provided, apply mind over it and give inputs to the corporation.” It is a continuous process of interaction and iteration, he said.

On being asked as to what requires the push in the city, Tewari said an elevated road project is definitively a future need because eventually traffic congestion will grow.

He said, “If activity at the Mohali airport picks up and international travel takes up a big time and Covid-19 allows us to get back to life as normal, then an elevated road project, which is a Rs 100 crore project, would definitely require a push.”

Earlier, Tiwari reviewed the ongoing projects. He said the MC must cut down the involvement of various agencies and bring work under one roof.
