All level crossings in Bhopal railway division will have toilets by March

BHOPAL: Realising the need of toilets at level crossings, the Bhopal railway division has decided to construct toilets at all crossings in the next six months. There are 110 level crossings in Bhopal division and only 50% of them have toilets as of now.

Bhopal DRM Uday Borwanker said the toilet construction will be completed by March 2020.

“We have already constructed toilets at 50 level crossings. Out of the over 100 level crossings, few have been identified to be closed down. However, we will cover majority of level crossings soon,” said Borwanker.

Asked the reason for constructing toilets even at crossings which are to be closed down, Borwanker said, “Our railway staff go there for different maintenance works and it will be useful for them.”

DRM Bhopal recently developed model railway crossing in the country by setting up a state-of-the art crossing near Bhim Baithka. For the first time in the country, the DRM has developed four model railway crossings with latest amenities and infrastructure for gatemen on the Bina-Guna block.

These crossings have been developed at gate no-10 (near Mungaoli railway station), gate no-50 (near Shahdora railway station), gate no-3 (near Bina railway station) and gate no-297 (near Kalhar railway station).

Officials said several programmes have been organized in the past to make people aware of safety and security while passing through such crossings. However, the idea is to help the gatemen who perform their duties in interior parts in extremely challenging situation. They said that the objective behind developing such model crossings is to improve the working conditions along with better amenities for the gatemen. “We always follow safety guidelines at level crossings. At the model railway crossings, RO water machines, separate cabin for gatemen, solar panels, hand-pumps and plantations have been set up,” said Borwanker. In the second phase, model railway crossings are being developed on the Habibganj-Harda as well as Bhopal-Maksi railway block.
