Ambala: Tanker carrying 17 tonne LPG overturns on GT Road, no casualties

AMBALA: A tanker carrying about 17 tonne of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) overturned on Ludhiana-Amritsar Road in Ambala on Thursday morning.

The driver of the tanker, identified as Satnam Singh (35), escaped unhurt, leaving the vehicle on the spot. Luckily, no casualties were reported in the incident as the LPG did not leak from the tanker.

The tanker was heading towards Hoshiarpur in Punjab from Noni HP Gas Plant in Delhi. When the tanker reached Ambala, its driver mistakenly drove towards Chandigarh road.

Later, the driver took a U-turn towards Delhi and then drove towards the Ludhiana-Amritsar flyover where the vehicle overturned due to unknown reasons.

As the canter was carrying 17 tonne gas, the district administration and police took precautionary measures and called officials of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

Officials said two fire brigades, an ambulance and four cranes were pressed into service during the operation.

“We received the information around 8am and it took around six hours to safely clear the passage under the observation of experts,” Baldev Nagar SHO inspector Rajeev Kumar said.
