Ambala: Thieves flee with ATM containing Rs 3.08 lakh

AMBALA: A group of thieves barged into an ATM kiosk of the Axis Bank and fled with the machine containing Rs 3.08 lakh in Ambala around 2am on Thursday.

Police said since the ATM machine was not fixed on the floor, the thieves loaded it in an SUV and sped away from the spot.

The spot from where the ATM machine was taken is right in the heart of Ambala City and the area is densely populated.

Upon receiving the information, Ambala SP Abhishek Jorwal, Ambala city SHO Satish Kumar reached the spot in the morning for inspection.

Police said that three miscreants came in a Renault Duster SUV and loaded the ATM machine in it after breaking the door of the kiosk.

The thieves also blackened the lens of two CCTV cameras installed inside the ATM kiosk before taking the machine.

“The ATM belonged to Axis Bank. At around 2am, a Duster car came here and fled with the cash machine. The machine was not fixed to the ground. The accused have blackened the CCTV cameras with spray paint. However, when we checked the visuals of other CCTV cameras installed in the area, we came to know about the vehicle and its passengers. The registration number of the vehicle was not clearly visible. We are investigating the matter,” SHO Satish told TOI.

Police said the Axis Bank had given the contract of taking care of its ATMs to a private company and a case will be registered on the complaint of the company’s representatives.
