Amreli (Gujarat) Election 2019: BJP's Naranbhai Bhikhabhai Kachhadiya seeks third term

Gandhinagar: Amreli Lok Sabha constituency is located in the Amreli district. The constituency went to polls in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections on April 23. Naranbhai Bhikhabhai Kachhadiya of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contested against Paresh Dhanani of the Congress and Ravjibhai Mulabhai Chauhan of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

The Amreli Lok Sabha constituency is divided into seven Vidhan Sabha segments, of which only one is reserved for the Scheduled Caste category candidate. These constituencies are Dhari, Amreli, Lathi, Savarkundala, Rajula, Mahuva and Gariadhar.

Paresh Dhanani a politician of the Congress, Dhanani is an incumbent leader of opposition in the legislative assembly. He had represented the Amreli legislative seat from 2002-2007 and is the sitting MLA from Amreli since 2012.

Naranbhai Kachhadia is the sitting MP from the Amreli Lok Sabha constituency. He had been the sitting MP from the constituency since 2009

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Naranbhai Kachhadia of the BJP defeated Virjibhai Keshavbhai Thummar of the Congress by a margin of 1,56,232 or 19.3 per cent votes. The constituency witnessed a voter turnout of 54.4 per cent.

The Lok Sabha seat had been a BJP bastion since 1991, except 2004 when Virjibhai Keshavbhai Thummar of the Congress got ahead of the BJP’s candidate.

Congress looks to win the seat since they claim that the farmers are not happy with the Modi government. Congress had been raising this issue of farmers not being a priority of the Modi government.
