Andhra election results 2019: 15 votes clinch the winner in Vijayawada Central

VIJAYAWADA: Assembly constituencies in Vijayawada saw hard battles between TDP and YSRC after which, YSRC came out winners in two of the three segments. Of these, possibly the fiercest was the contest that ensued between YSRC’s Malladi Vishnu and TDP’s Bonda Umamaheswara Rao in Vijayawada Central constituency. The counting war came down to the last round.

Vishnu started off convincingly when he established a lead of 9,000-odd votes in the initial few rounds. Uma’s tally began to increase steadily in the next three rounds while Vishnu’s share seemed to have achieved its saturation point. At one point, Uma established an increasing lead of 1,966 votes. Eventually, however, Uma lost to Vishnu as the last round provided Vishnu a much-needed 15 votes to win the battle.

YSRC leader Velampalli Srinivas won the Vijayawada West constituency where he comfortably defeated TDP leader Jaleel Khan’s daughter Shabana Khatoon by a little over 7,000 votes.

In Vijayawada East, TDP’s Gadde Rama Mohan Rao won against YSRC’s Boppanna Bhava Kumar by 15,164 votes.

In 2014, YSRC had won only Vijayawada West with Jaleel Khan. A couple of years later, he defected to TDP leaving YSRC no legislator from the city.
