Andhra Pradesh: 20 active Covid-19 clusters in Visakhapatnam

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam city is now under fifth surveillance survey as it has 20 active clusters and number of Covid-19 cases in May month alone almost touched 80 out of 99 cases reported so far.


The district administration denotified another cluster in the city, Muslim Thatichetlapalem, on Friday as no positive case was reported till the late night of Thursday, after last positive case turned into negative 28 days ago.



So far, eight clusters have been de-notified by the district administration out of 33 clusters including Komativeedhi in Narsipantnam , Revidi in Padmanabham mandal, Allipuram, ITI Junction, and Santhinagar near NAD, Rangireejuveedhi, and Kunchamamba Colony in Gajuwaka of Vizag city.

According to sources, the district now has 25 active clusters, including 20 in Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation Limits . The cases number has reached 99 and around 77 positive cases were reported in the month of May. So far 66 people were discharged after their tests were resulted in negative. Another 10 would be discharged soon.

All 20 active clusters in the GVMC limits have 6.2 lakh people in densely populated areas. Though the fourth lockdown period has got many relaxations, the people in the containment zones would not get any respite.

“The completion of 28 days of last positive patient recovery would give a free zone status to the concerned cluster. We have four very active clusters in the district, including Dandubazar, Jalaripeta and Neelammavepa chettu area in Vizag city. We have four active clusters including Chedikada, Bucchayyapeta and Narsipatnam in rural and Jnanapuram in Vizag city," the GVMC commissioner G Srijana told TOI.

She said that 16 out of 20 clusters in the city are under dormant category means no case was reported in the last 15 days. The GVMC Commissioner said that everyday surveillance in the clusters has been going on with ANMs and others. "Police check posts and restrictions would continue in the containment zones, whose radius was reduced to 200 meters from the earlier 3 kms, except Dandubazaar where one kilometer radius rule was imposed due many positive cases," she said.
