Armyman who died of hypoxia cremated with full honours in Jalaun

Jhansi: Mortal remains of 40-year-old army personnel, Dharampal Singh from Jalaun district, who succumbed due to hypoxia at Chandigarh on Wednesday, were cremated with full military honours at his native village here on Friday. He is survived by his wife and a son.

Dharampal Singh of village Jaisari Kalan in Jalaun district has been serving in Indian Army, artillery division as a Havaldar since 2001.

He was posted at Indo-China border at Ladakh after he along with his battalion recently moved to Ladakh from Rajasthan. On Wednesday, he was flown to a hospital in Chandigarh due to hypoxia where he later succumbed.

Apart from army officials, local MLA, Gauri Shankar Verma, SDM Orai, Satendra Singh and CO City, Santosh Kumar were also present during the cremation. Defying the Covid protocol, hundreds of villagers from nearby villages thronged the cremation ground, shouting slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’, to have a glimpse of the personnel.
