At SCO meeting, India calls for 'zero-tolerance' policy on terror

New Delhi: India has stressed the need to adopt “a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism in all its forms” for prosperity and development of member states of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which also includes Pakistan.

Defence secretary Giridhar Aramane, who led the Indian delegation at SCO defence ministers ’ meeting at Astana in Kazakhastan, underlined India’s steadfast commitment towards maintaining peace, stability and security in the region.

In keeping with defence minister Rajnath Singh’s earlier statement that all SCO members should collectively work towards eliminating terrorism in all its forms, and fix accountability on those who aid or fund such activities, Aramane also mentioned India’s long-standing proposal for a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the UN.

The defence secretary highlighted the concept of ‘Security and Growth for All in Region (SAGAR)’, which has been proposed by India for Indo-Pacific. “A joint communique was issued after SCO meet, in which it was agreed to develop idea of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’,” an official said. TNN
