Aurangabad: GMCH seeks to MCI nod for dermatology course

Aurangabad: The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) is in the process of getting permission for starting a new post graduate course, MD dermatology.

For this, an associate professor from Pune-based BJ Medical College has arrived at the state-run medical college to get the pre-requisites ready for approval from Medical Council of India (MCI).

According to GMCH dean Kanan Yelikar, the hospital is seeking approval of the board of governors of the MCI to run the 3-year postgraduate programme. Following college’s application, a team from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik conducted a ground inspection at the state-run hospital to assess the facilities.

Subsequently, it had provided the hospital the consent of affiliation. The college now awaits a nod from MCI, the central regulatory body.

Sudhir Medhekar, head of department of skin at GMCH, said the course would help create specialist doctors and also improve the quality of patient care. The department caters to patients from districts across Marathwada and beyond. “With approval from MCI, the GMCH would become the only hospital in the region to have the specialty course,” he said.
