Ayodhya Verdict: SC decrees Ram Mandir at disputed site, allots separate land for mosque

New Delhi, Nov 9: 

The Supreme Court of India has pronounced its historic verdict in the Ayodhya land dispute case today. The five-judge bench of the Supreme Court led by CJI Ranjan Gogoi pronounced the judgment at 10:30 am today. Massive security arrangements were made to ensure that there is no backlash after the verdict.

The apex court said the mosque should be constructed at a "prominent site", allotted either by the Centre or the Uttar Pradesh government, and a trust should be formed within three months for the construction of the temple at the site many Hindus believe Lord Ram was born.

Here are the major highlights: 

-Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issues advisory to all channels and cable TV operators to strictly adhere to the programme code during discussion, debates and reporting.

-It's a day of happiness. Karsevaks have given their life for this day. The Supreme Court while delivering the judgment have taken in consideration the feelings of the majority people and the reality, so I congratulate them too. Now Ram Mandir construction should happen at the earliest, also 'Ramrajya' should be a reality. Had Balasaheb been alive today, he would have really happy:

- Centre will formulate a scheme in three months to set up a board of trustees for construction of temple at the disputed structure, says Supreme Court.

-SC orders allotment of alternative land to Muslims for setting up of a mosque while decreeing the disputed site to deity

-SC says Allahabad High Court was wrong in dividing the disputed site into three parts

-The mosque was not abandoned by the Muslims. Though the Hindus continued to worship at Ram Chabutra but they claimed ownership on Garbh Garha also, says SC.

-It is clearly established that while Muslims offered prayers inside the inner courtyard, the same was done by Hindus in the outer courtyard: SC

-There is evidence that Ram Chabutra, Sita Rasoi was worshipped by the Hindus before the British came, says SC.

-Titles can’t be decided on faith and belief but on the claims, rules SC.

- Accounts of travellers and historians mention faith of Hindus that the place is birthplace of Lord Ram. The account of travellers has to be read with circumspection, SC says.

-Hindus have faith and belief that Lord Ram was born under the dome. Faith is a matter of individual belief, says CJI.

-Title of the land can be decided only on legal evidence, SC says.

- Archaeological Survey of India credentials are beyond doubt and the findings cannot be neglected, says CJI 

-Nirmohi Akhara suit is not maintainable and it has no shebait rights (priestly rights), rules SC.

-This court must accept faith and accept belief of worshippers. Court should preserve balance: CJI Ranjan Gogoi

-Babri mosque was built by Mir Baqi. It is inappropriate for the Court to get into area of theology.

-The verdict has been consensually decided by all the five judges, say sources.

-At least 40,000 police personnel have been deployed in Mumbai in view of the Supreme Court's verdict on the sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case, officials said. The situation will be monitored through drone units and live CCTV feeds from the police control room.
