Banner of Hanuman flies high in the city

Varanasi: Thousands of devotees took part in Hanuman Dhwaja Yatra taken out by Hanumat Seva Samiti on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on Tuesday.

Braving the scorching heat, devotees took part in the yatra barefoot carrying saffron flags and chanting slogans in the praise of Lord Ram. Amidst the sound of drum and slogans of ‘Jai shree Ram; the yatra was taken out from Bhikharipur crossing and culminated at Sankat Mochan Temple.

The 5.25-km-long yatra, completed in more than 4 hours, was flagged off by Mahant Swami Shankar Puri of Annapurna Temple and committee chairman Rambali Maurya. A 25-feet long, 22-feet high and 15-feet wide tableau of the Ram temple built in Ayodhya was also a part of this Dhwaja Yatra. A 14-inch replica of the statue of Ram lalla was also installed on the tableau. Another attraction of the yatra was the tableau of Shri Ram Darbar installed on a 60 feet long chariot, on which the Kirtan troupe of Sankat Mochan Mandir continued chanting Ramnaam. Ahead of them was a group of 251 damru players. The devotees from all over Purvanchal participated in the yatra, and offered 11,000 flags at the feet of Sankat Mochan Hanuman for the welfare of the world. The 25-feet main flag was offered by committee chairman Rambali Maurya. The yatra was welcomed at 40 places and devotees showered flowers on it.

Arrangements were also made for drinking water, sherbat, fruits along the way. The Samiti arranged 1001 kg laddu which was later distributed as prasad among the devotees.
