Bathinda: Kin refuse to cremate stray cattle victim

BATHINDA: Jawaharke village panchayat as well as the family of a dalit man killed in an accident caused by stray cattle, refused to cremate his body until the family gets compensation from the government.

The panchayat held protest by stretching out the body on the Mansa-Jawaharke road on Sunday.

The protesters alleged that the government has not done enough to contain the stray cattle problem.

AAP MLA Aman Arora and Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from Sardulgarh Dilraj Singh Bhundar also participated in the protest.

Earlier, half-a-dozen MLAs from AAP, AAP Punjab president and MP Bhagwant Mann and Sukhpal Singh Khaira and his supporters had participated in a candle-lit march on Friday at Mansa against the stray cattle menace and called upon the state government to find workable and long-lasting solution to the problem.

Sorabjit Singh alias Sunny, 25, was hit by a stray cattle on Friday night. Sorabjit, a daily wage worker, had gone to take milk from a dairy in the village when a stray cattle hit him.

He was taken to the Mansa civil hospital from where he was referred to the Rajindra hospital in Patiala but died on the way.

Four persons have lost lives in accidents caused by stray cattle in Mansa district in little over a month.
