BJP nominates Kothrud corporator Murlidhar Mohol for Mayor polls, Congress-NCP fields Prakash Kadam

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Kothrud corporator as the official candidate for Mayoral elections in Pune Municipal Corporation.

There are around 27 municipal bodies including Mumbai, Thane, and Pune that will pick new mayors in elections that will be held November 22.

The BJP has 97 corporators in the 164 member Municipal Corporation (PMC).



The BJP has nominated Kothrud corporator Murlidhar Mohol, whereas the Congress-NCP has fielded Prakash Kadam for the mayor's post and Saraswati Shendge for the deputy mayor's post.


Currently, Mukta Tilak is the mayor of Pune. This time, mayor will be from the general open category.

In Mumbai, the BJP has clarified that it will not field a candidate against the Shiv Sena.

Apart from Mumbai and Pune, the other corporations going to the polls are Nagpur, Thane, Nashik, Kalyan-Dombivali, Sangli, and Ulhasnagar.


Navi Mumbai, Jalgaon, Bhivandi, Akola, Panvel, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Aurangabad, and Chandrapur are among other corporations that have been reserved for women in the open category.

The mayor's post for the municipal corporation of Vasai-Virar is reserved for a SC candidate and Mira Bhayandar is reserved for a ST candidate.
